I do manips as well and I agree with you Verene. Only problem that I have (especially with contest) is having to create my own stock art. With GW its not that bad though since it IS a GW related contest...

But I know I'll get too anal if I try a manip for the contest. Hence why I may make a scrapbook or a parody of a classic xmas story in scrapbook form or something instead. xP

Got my progress blog up and running:
http://winterlore.blogspot.com/

I think I will only post whenever I make progress because I'm rather busy with everything atm. I hope I can pull something off at least even with my schedule. Maybe not all of my grandeur plans but at least the artwork.

Oh wow, I go away to get a good night's sleep and suddenly the thread is flooded with WIPs. <3

@Operative 14: Wow, your photomanip is looking very good so far! I like the soft transitions, and how the gods look ghostly in the background. I thought at first that the gods were drawn in by hand. Very, very nice!

I agree with Verene, Photoshop is not a magic tool for awesomeness. It requires skill and a good eye to be able to make something that actually looks good. Everyone and their dog can use Photoshop, but most people don't know how to use it well.

@frostkisses: Awww, that's adorable! :3 And the hand looks good now, you definitely don't need to improve it more. Don't worry about spamming the thread, you're just getting a head start on everyone else. I will start posting more WIPs next week, as soon as I get an insanely busy weekend out of the way and finish your commission.

@Marsh: Ooooh, I'm loving your WIP! I have a weak spot for drawings with lots of detail and action going on in them. It's fun to try to spot all of the things happening in it. The lineart looks good, and the placement of the characters is very well done.

@Nian: Can't wait to see what you come up with. :3 It'll be great to see even WIPs from you, even if you don't manage to finish it in time. Trying and not finishing it is better than not trying at all.

@ Verene, Chicken of the Seas, Perynne: Wow, thanks guys I actually feel a lot better about it. I've always felt like doing the photo manipulations were kind of a cheap cop out because I couldn't do 'actual' art - hence why in everything I've done lately I've tried to hand draw all the elements. Thanks for the kind words, I don't feel like such a sell-out anymore.

I think today I'm going to make my sketch in PS, get some feedback, and then sketch it out on bristol board. I need to get myself a few refrence shots for colour, because I dont think I'm remembering the colours right.
But i wanna try the new GW:Beyond stuff; it looks exciting D:

Very bad quality since my cell phone camera is not a Canon EOS 1D...

Photomanips are most definitely 'real' art. It just requires a different set of skills than drawing. But yeah, I may be slightly biased

(I find that photography gets painted with a similar stigma - that people who don't actually try it much or just snap pics of their friends or whatever don't think it's art and it doesn't require any talent or skill. Actual photographers, though, would definitely beg to differ.)

Looks good so far, Frustration, and I love Norn armor

The main composition itself looks good, Death, and I love the teeny polar bears, especially the upside down one - so cute <333 Are you going to have more in the background, though? Because that looks a bit unbalanced with the door on one side and not much on the other.

as of right now, i dont have anything planned. What would you suggest? I went into the Secret Lair of the Snowmen because it's the same dungeon used for the quest, and took some screenshots. I took one from the angle i was imagining it at, and just drew in what I saw plus a few rocks ^^

I could potentially throw in a few bigger rocks on that side, but what else would you suggest? What if I moved the bears and the chest over to the left more and readjusted some rocks around that? I can see that helping the balance but dont know if that would ruin the focal point.
The whole things going to be in colour too btw, dont know if i mentioned that or if it was just implied.
And thank you, i think they look more playful that if they were adult, but small, jingle bears. :P

Gotta say, Frusti, that looks just like the angle and position you'd do it in. Wish I could use color, too.

I know... I checked, and the link is right. I don't know why it says file not found.
I can access the gallery from my DA page no problems and the URLs match.

I should try and upload a very poor stickman sketch, just so we can see if having 1 picture there changes anything...

I'll draw that in a little bit.

Yay! No rush on the commission. I want you to be able to work on your entry as well. At the rate I'm going with this picture I may start another.

@operative- Love the photo manipulation <3 *waits patiently to see more*

@frustration- Glad to see I'm not the only one that still loves their colored pencils! looks good so far

@arrow- the bears are cute! love the one rolling on his back.

Thanks for the kind words. Off to start my outline and color!

ok, here's a super fast 1 minute sketch just for the sake of my gallery.

If it still doesn't work, then go to my DA main page, and find the "GW Wintersday" folder in the gallery. See for yourself that the URLs match
No idea why it doesn't work still >_<
